Fourth Grade Art Posters ($30 each)

4th Grade Projects:

Each 4th grader has spent HOURS breaking plates J gluing the pieces onto terra cotta pots (donated by Emily Thompson from All Seasons Garden shop) and finally a day of extremely fun and messy grouting. Next, Emily Thompson is helping us fill the pots with soil and plant some vibrantly green and wispy wheat grass that will be ready just in time for our Art Show. Your child is so very proud of their MOSAIC CONTAINERS – and - rightfully so. This was a big and lengthy project for them! In addition, each class has a Guest Artist who was inspired by the children and has created a mosaic piece of art to be for sale the night of the show.

Mrs. Key’s Class: The Guest Artist for this class is our very own, Katherine Sjoblom. Besides coming up with this wild idea in the first place, Katherine has been my right hand man for this project and rolled up her sleeves many a day to help the children. Katherine felt inspired to create Mosaic Fairy Balls from recycled bowling balls and they will be the focal point for this classes arrangement of their containers and will also be for sale the night of THE SHOW! Come see these vibrant Fairy Balls and make a wish for your child in art and in life.

Mrs. Nicholson’s Class: The Guest Artist for this class is Beth Inglish. Beth felt inspired to create a stunning mosaic table that JR found for us. The glass used in the table if from the job site of Covenant Presbyterian Church that is under construction in Green Hills. Our local architect, David Harper designed the church and salvaged the glass from the stained glass artist. Beth spent over 25 hours choosing the colors, breaking the glass, and adhering it to the table in a radial pattern that glows from the inside out. You have to see this beautiful table that captures the essence of the bright and colorful light of childhood. You may view the work at www.binglishart.com.

Ms. Foxx’s Class: The Guest Artist for this class is Camilla Spadafino. After helping sixty children mosaic and grout their terra cotta planters Camilla went on her own mad mosaic frenzy and mosaiced a bird bath with three beautiful Koi swimming around inside the basin. The glass used for this piece is also from the church our local architect, David Harper designed. The stain glass artist set aside his scraps, which were recycled into Camilla’s birdbath. It is shiny, swimmy and sure to catch your eye and capture your imagination.

Press Release:

Fairy Garden” Features Art From Lockeland Design Center

Inglewood’s Riverside Village hosts inspiring event

Nashville, TN – The popular neighborhood commercial district – Riverside Village – will magically transform into a “fairy garden” next month as Lockeland Design Center launches its second annual art show and sale April 17 from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Over 300 students, the artist group “Collective Muse,” and 14 East Nashville artists will showcase original artwork throughout the village area, highlighting the school’s best in painting, sculpture, mixed media, and a kinetic work all focusing on the theme of “In The Fairy Garden.” Lockeland Design Center, a K-4 school located in historic East Nashville, partnered with Riverside Village due to its easily accessible venues and diverse collection of creative and family-friendly businesses.

Camille Spadafino, Lockeland's art teacher and the event’s coordinator, says it’s the ideal location for the event. “Twelve stores and restaurants will be showcasing Lockeland’s inspiring new art work on walls, hanging from ceilings and in the outdoor courtyard garden itself. They’re all within a two-block area so visitors can see a lot of beautiful creations and also enjoy all the neighborhood restaurants and stores. It is exciting to see adults from our community inspiring and being inspired by children in art. This show conveys creative partnerships on many levels, and you will see that in the way the work is installed.”

Dan Heller, the developer of Riverside Village, sees the event as a unique partnership that builds solid communities. “I think when local businesses support local schools, good things happen. This will be a really fun event that I expect will help strengthen the connections within our community.”

Famed artist Herb Williams, who volunteered to be the guest artist for his child’s class, has given his time to help guide and inspire many of the students in creating their own work. “It’s really a privilege to work with these Lockeland students,” Williams said. “I was stunned by the high level of work many of these kids are doing. It’s very inspiring.”

Artists Beth Inglish, Jodi Reeves, Michelle Sharp, Mike Stutz, Carrie Fanning, David Harper, Katherine Sjoblom, Johnny Downs, Michelle Fuqua, Hosanna Banks, Rob Hollett, Angel Price, and Bob and Sam Tyler have inspired and are being inspired by the Lockeland students as well.

Riverside Village businesses Mitchell Deli, Watanabe Sushi, Sip CafĂ©, Mike’s Ice Cream, East Nashville School of Music, Salon Studios, Studio 1406, Tyler’s Finer Thrift and East Nashville Guitars and Bailey & Cato’s Restaurant will all be showcasing Lockeland artwork on their walls—inside and outside—with special promotions and menu items for visitors to the event. Costumed fairies, gnomes and elves will also be roaming around the area offering entertainment to children and adults alike.

The “In The Fairy Garden” art show and sale will be held April 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The artwork will remain on display until May 10th.
